Shawn Brown shares his Power Rankings after Week 2 of the 2024 NFL Season
By Shawn Brown| Writer for SBHL Networks
As with every year, the first few weeks are highly volatile. Week 2 of the NFL has proven to be injury-ridden definitely shaking up our Rest of Season Roster projections. With that said, that is only one facet of the calculations to our Power Rankings and actual production (both W-L & Points Scored) holds more weight. We had some slight shuffling in our rankings, but teams did not move too far out of the tiers we established last week. Here are our rankings for Week 3:
Biggest Movers
+3 (SexySandwich, 11 to 8, & -4 (The Gold Standard 7 to 11)
1. Horsedick boy'z (▲2)
2-0 | 145 PPGThe highest scoring team for the second week in a row, we had to put HDB at the top of our power rankings this week. HDB had solid production from every player in their lineup, aside from the 4 players that missed their projection (2 of which scored below 10 points, Najee Harris and Ja'Marr Chase). It looks like the additions through the 2024 rookie draft performed well (WR Malik Nabers 23.70 pts & TE Brock Bowers 14.30 pts.). If this is any indication of things to come, HDB had an excellent draft this year. It looks like HDB has finally proven the nay-sayers wrong with 2020 1.04 pick JK Dobbins, as Dobbins is the RB4 through 2 games. A player to keep an eye on is WR Ja'Marr Chase, the WR1 for HDB has underperformed his WR teammates for the 2nd straight week.
2. Ronnie's Squad ◄►
2-0 | 129 PPGRonnie's Squad will stay put at #2 this week, with a win over Julio Think You Are? I Am! but scoring #3 on the week. RS still has the strongest rest of season roster, but they lack the reliability at RB to make us confident in giving them the #1 spot. Behind starter RB Aaron Jones and RBBC RB Jaylen Warren, RS is out of starting running backs. With an injury to KC RB Isiah Pacheco, RS might be able to start RB Carson Steele a for a few weeks. That is the only part of RS's roster that is a weak spot, as their air attack can (and typically does) overcome their ground attack. Adding TE George Kittle to the best receiving core in the league, makes us believe RS will be sticking around the Top 3 in our Power Rankings all year.
3. Shawn Brady (▼2)
2-0 | 140 PPGAs alluded to last week, Shawn Brady's reign at the top of the Power Rankings was short lived. SB needed to outscore HDB for us to consider keeping SB at #1. SB was outscored by HDB again, so we could not rank SB above HDB. SB did outscore everyone else, but their roster took a huge blow in projection when a player that is not even on their team went to IR. QB Tua Tagovailoa (on The Gold Standard in the SBHL) went down with injury, meaning the future and production of Veteran WR Tyreek Hill is uncertain, until Tua comes back. Rookie WR Marvin Harrison Jr. laid the critiques to rest, with a great 2-TD game (27.00 pts.) The highlight performance of the week was RB Alvin Kamara (43.00 pts.), who will need to have another great performance if SB is going to stay in the Top 3 next week.
4. ThatManAgain... (▲2)
2-0 | 111 PPGThatManAgain.... had 4 players scoring 20+ games (Davante Adams, DK Metcalf, Chris Godwin & Breece Hall), so it looks like the Hyphy Bowl Hangover is done. Scoring 3rd highest last week, we felt TMA deserved to be in the Top 5. The only goose egg put up by TMA was WR Xavier Legette (this is the second Carolina Panther TMA has drafted that has underperformed their draft capital - 2023, Jonathan Mingo).
5. SINCERE's Team (▼1)
2-0 | 100 PPGThe last of the unbeaten teams, SINCERE's Team rounds out the Top 5. CMC has now officially been placed on Injured Reserve, which means ST will be without CMC until at least October. Another blow was suffered by ST, as WR Deebo Samuel will likely miss a week or two, as he is dealing with a calf issue. Scoring sub-100, is not what we typically expect from SINCERE's Team, but it makes sense, as the RB room is very hazy right now. ST is currently starting Blake Corum and Raheem Blackshear, who combined for 2.80 pts. last week. With 2 major injuries to starters, we would not be surprised if ST drops out of the Top 5 next week.
6. JonLegends (▼1)
1-1 | 113 PPGThe first of our 1-1 teams, JonLegends leads the pack with the 6th highest PPG this year. This is an impressive feat, as JL was an expansion team, just 2 years ago. Rookies QB Jayden Daniels (13.44 pts.) and RB Jordan Mason (16.90 pts.) are making an impact with respectable performances. 2023 1st round pick WR Alec Pierce led the Colts WR room for the 2nd straight week. If JL can keep this up, we can see them making the playoffs this year. Aside from injury, there are 2 points on this roster that have a looming situation that could derail this Cinderella story, WR Rashee Rice's potential legal trouble and the return of RB Christian McCaffrey taking away work from RB Jordan Mason.
7. Cold Hearted Krispies (▲2)
1-1 | 93 PPGCHK had another rough week, vastly underperforming their projection, luckily their opponent performed worse. CHK has 4 reliable RBs and Patrick Mahomes, the only shortcoming of their roster is their wide receiver room. DJ Moore is tied to a QB that has not found his rhythm yet, Michael Pittman Jr.'s QB has one of the lower pass attempts for starting QB's and those targets are not finding Pittman (they are finding Alec Pierce), and two receivers that share the same offense Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell.
8. SexySandwich (▲3)
1-1 | 103 PPGSexySandwich had a bounce back week scoring 5th highest this week. SS looks to have a solid lineup from top to bottom, with 7 players scoring double-digits, the tried and true strategy of patience and trusting your scouting has paid off (SS has made 1 trade, sending away a player and receiving picks in the 5 years of the SBHL).
9. Subject to Change (▲1)
1-1 | 114 PPGSubject to Change picks up a win against division rival and fellow Nate, The 37th Chamber. STC is the 3rd team from the Legends division to be in our Top 10, which means, based on our calculations the Legends division might be a closer division than projected. If TE Travis Kelce can get back to the production we are expecting, STC might be able to sneak up our Power Rankings and possibly in to the playoffs.
10. Julio Think You Are? I Am! (▼2)
0-2 | 119 PPGWe could copy and paste our analysis from last week, as it is still hard to move last year's champion too far down our rankings but it looks like we have to. JTYAIA has the 4th highest PPG but are in the division with the #2 and #3 PPG teams, resulting in JTYAIA going 0-2 over the first two weeks. JTYAIA does not have to face SB or RS until the end of the season, but in a divisional playoff race that will come down to the wire, 2 losses might prove valuable at end of the season. JTYAIA was stuck between a rock and a hard place as they lack the depth to reliably replace starter WR Keenan Allen who was questionable all week and played the Sunday evening game (resulting in starting Allen for 0.00 pts.)
11. The Gold Standard (▼4)
1-1 | 91 PPGThe Gold Standard had the 2nd lowest score last week, with only 2 players scoring double digits and 1 player scoring negative points (TE Cade Otton: -0.40 pts.). TGS's roster suffered a potential huge loss as QB Tua Tagovailoa went down with an injury mid-game, and rumor has it, might retire for safety reasons. If Tua retires, TGS's roster gets a little weaker, as they have Tua as a backup QB and WR Jayden Waddle as a starter every game.
12. The 37th Chamber ◄►
0-2 | 76 PPGThe 37th Chamber scored the 7th highest score last week, and last in their division. 37C's lower scores might be a result of some unlucky early season injuries. 37C lost QB JJ McCarthy to the pre-season IR, WR Puca Nacua last week to the IR and RB Isiah Pacheco to IR this week. With only 1 QB on season-ending IR (JJ McCarthy), it is still early enough in the season for 37C to make some roster moves to turn this season around.
13. I'll Fuck Your Dad ◄►
1-1 | 70 PPGIt appears I'll Fuck Your Dad is looking forward to next season as they unloaded some players for future picks. Adding a loss this week, with the weakest rest of season roster, IFYD fans might be in for a dreadful 2024. With each successive week, we project IFYD to drop lower in our power rankings, but until the other 3 teams show us they are in drastically better positions (or earn a win or two), IFYD will sit at #13.
14. Team_MAGA (▲2)
0-2 | 71 PPGFrom #16 to #14, Team_MAGA showed their 3 superstars (QB Justin Herbert, WR Nico Collins and RB David Montgomery) were not ready to phone it in. TM definitely has the players with the name cache to either put some respectable games together or can prove to be good trade targets for the rest of this year (WR Amari Cooper, WR Elijah Moore, RB Chase Brown).
15. 21 Cabbage (▼1)
0-2 | 74 PPG21 Cabbage is almost out of the division gauntlet which is the first three weeks. 21C outperformed projection led by 2023 1st round pick WR Quintin Johnston (19.60 pts.). With the news of 21C's 2nd 1st round pick (QB Bryce Young) being benched, as much as we would like to move 21C past IFYD, we would like to see another week of 21C's production.
16. Untouchables (▼1)
0-2 | 72 PPGUnouchables are in now in the SBHL record book, but not for something they would like to be known for (scoring the lowest in SBHL history), scoring 45.66 points. None of the Untouchables scored above double digits, so we had to move them down to #16 and could not move them up this week. UTCH definitely has players with potential, especially if you pay attention to college ball; QB Anthony Richardson, QB Spencer Rattler, RB Bucky Irving, RB Tyjae Spears, RB Tyler Allgeier, RB Roschon Johnson, RB Jonathan Brooks [on IR], WR Terry McLaurin, WR Rashod Bateman, WR Treylon Burks, WR Rondale Moore, K Tyler Bass, so we do not see them staying at #16 all year, with a bright future.
