Much has happened since 2022: 3 teams decided to leave the league; 3 new owners have stepped in to take over those teams; several months of NFL contract drama; some veteran players have found new teams in the SBHL; and a new pool of rookies have been added to rosters.
1. Horsedick boy'z
On the hot seat: RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire
Yahoo! Projection: 12-2
The Horsedick boy'z have had trouble finding a reliable running back the last few years. They have been riddled with injuries at the position, which has kept them out of the championship game three years in a row. With two Top 3 picks, HDB added the gem of the draft Bijan Robinson at number 1 overall, and WR1 Jaxon Smith-Njigba with the third pick. Adding these two young players to an already strong team, HDB is projected to win the Heroes division with a record of 12-2.
2. Ronnie's Squad
On the hot seat: RB Cam Akers
Yahoo! Projection: 14-0
Another year, another draft. Ronnie's Squad did not trade in to this year's first round, and did not address their running back room. That does not mean RS did not make any improvements, with one of the bigger trades this off-season, RS sent off Stefon Diggs and DJ Moore to acquire CeeDee Lamb. Ronnie's Squad is again doubling-down on having the strongest Wide Receiver core, and supplementing with secondary running backs. Ronnie's Squad is counting on Cam Akers (as their only primary back) to lead the running back room and provide RB1 numbers to compliment their arsenal of wide receivers.
3. ThatManAgain....
On the hot seat: TE Kyle Pitts
Yahoo! Projection: 12-2
ThatManAgain.... enters the 2023 season without much change to their 2021 Championship roster. Adding depth through the draft TMA added WR Jonathan Mingo and Trey Palmer to address a potential hole they caused by sending away Keenan Allen earlier in the off-season. Kyle Pitts will have all eyes on him this year, as he enters his third season after being selected number 2 overall in 2021 to help TMA at the tight end position. ThatManAgain.... is instilling their faith in Pitts as they had the option to take Michael Mayer or Sam LaPorta but chose Jonathan Mingo instead.
4. Cold Hearted Krispies
On the hot seat: TE Sam LaPorta
Yahoo! Projection: 13-1
The Cold Hearted Krispies first off-season was one with big trade to move away from the identity the previous regime (TD Do You Love Me) started. Shipping out 2019 1st round pick WR CeeDee Lamb in exchange for WR Stefon Diggs and WR D.J. Moore, that is a bold move splitting up a young promising WR for two seasoned veterans. CHK addressed a position TDDYLM has tried to solve for years, tight end, with their first round pick this year taking TE Sam LaPorta.
5. Shawn Brady
On the hot seat: RB D'Andre Swift
Yahoo! Projection: 9-5
This is the highest ranked Shawn Brady has ever been going in to a new season. While making some big moves to trade out of the 2023 draft, Shawn Brady traded away the 1.08 and 1.10 (across 2 trades) for WR Tyreek Hill and RB Alvin Kamara. This is the first time Shawn Brady will have an elite wide receiver to add to their middle-of-the-pack wide receiver room. With some turmoil around the running back situation, adding Alvin Kamara as depth will be the insurance policy to the Swift situation. Shawn Brady is also banking on the uncertainty in Arizona, as they added WR Michael Wilson in the second. With their late second they spent it on the flyer RB Sean Tucker (depth RB in Tampa Bay).
6. The 37th Chamber
On the hot seat: QB Justin Fields
Yahoo! Projection: 8-6
The 37th Chamber had a good roster last year, but key injuries kept them out of the playoffs. If The 37th Chamber can stay healthy, they are set to have a good season. With no starting QB behind Justin Fields, 37C's season really hinges on the success of Fields. Adding Marvin Mims Jr., Will Levis, Puka Nacua, Tyler Scott, Stetson Bennet and Elijah Higgins all appear to be depth pieces, as 37C already has starters for these positions.
7. SexySandwich
On the hot seat: QB Russell Wilson & Daniel Jones
Yahoo! Projection: 7-7
SexySandwich was stuck in a hard position, drafting in the middle of the round for yet another year. Just high enough to draft players with potential, but a little too low to secure a Day 1 starter. This year SS added RB Zach Charbonnet, WR Josh Downs and QB Hendon Hooker. Adding this group of players to an already solid roster, SS is set to make it to the playoffs yet again.
8. Julio Think You Are? I Am!
On the hot seat: QB Kyler Murray
Yahoo! Projection: 6-8
Julio Think You Are? I Am! has fallen from being a perennial playoff team to potentially being a team on the outside looking in this year. Kyler Hurt really hurt JTYAIA by starting the season injured, causing JTYAIA to trade for QB Desmond Ridder as a stop gap. JTYAIA made several moves to add some youth to their team, using the 1.07 pick they secured last year on WR Zay Flowers, trading away Dalvin Cook for 1.17 (RB De'Von Achane) and a future first for TE Dalton Schultz and 2.04 (RB Kendre Miller).
9. SINCERE's Team
On the hot seat: QB Jordan Love
Yahoo! Projection: 10-4
SINCERE's Team is always a pre-season favorite to make it to the playoffs. With a strong team anchored by Josh Allen, Christian McCaffrey, Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel, ST was looking for a TE this off-season. Finding nothing in the open market, ST decided to look to the draft, taking the TE1 with the 1.11 pick - Dalton Kincaid. To add to the depth of various positions, ST drafted TE Tucker Kraft, RB Chris Rodriguez Jr and WR Andrei Iosivas.
10. The Gold Standard
On the hot seat: QB Trey Lance & Brock Purdy
Yahoo! Projection: 4-10
After a brutal start to last season, The Gold Standard was really searching for a team direction and a solution to a potential quarterback problem. TGS has Trey Lance, Tua Tagovailoa and Brock Purdy. The silver lining to The Gold Standard's draft process is an uncanny ability to hit on 1st round WR picks (2019 - DK Metcalf, 2020 - Justin Jefferson, 2021 - Jaylen Waddle). TGS has shipped off DK and Justin Jefferson in search of solving other areas of need on their team, with few of the gambles paying off. With no picks in the first round of the 2023 draft, TGS decided to ship off veteran WR Tyreek Hill for the 1.08 and 1.20. TGS drafted potential QB of the future: CJ Stroud at 1.08 and if TGS has done it again, next stud WR Jayden Reed at 1.20. With some late round flyers, TGS added TE Brenton Strange at 3.06 and RB Israel Abanikanda at 3.14.
11. Untouchables
On the hot seat: QB Anthony Richardson
Yahoo! Projection: 1-13
In the Untouchables first off-season (inhered team "Bue"), GM Kumar decided to add veteran WR Keenan Allen in the off-season and try to build through the draft. Untouchables took QB Anthony Richardson at 1.05, RB Tyjae Spears at 1.19, RB Roschon Johnson at 2.03, RB DeWayne McBride at 2.11, QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson at 3.03 and RB Deneric Prince at 3.19.
12. JonLegends
On the hot seat: QB Baker Mayfield
Yahoo! Projection: 3-11
JonLegends entered their second year in the league with the 2nd overall pick and needs at every position, JL could have gone in multiple directions. JonLegends had a busy day and started by taking RB2 in the draft Jahmyr Gibbs. They continued by trading 1.17 for RB Dalvin Cook, drafting WR Rashee Rice at 2.01, sending 2.17 and 3.01 to move up to 2.10 and draft TE Luke Musgrave, then sent a future 3rd to get 3.08 and draft WR Ronnie Bell. With a startable roster this year, JL hopes to win at least 2 games and address their QB position in a future draft.
13. I'll Fuck Your Dad
On the hot seat: QB Kenny Pickett
Yahoo! Projection: 0-14
I'll Fuck Your Dad's pre-season ranking mostly hinged on the projection of some of the younger players and the potential roles of RBs in of some of the NFL backfields. They are not projected to win any games, but will have some building blocks going forward. Anchored at QB with Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins, and Kenny Pickett along with sophomore running back Kenneth Walker III, IFYD decided to load up on wide receivers with all of their picks: WR Jordan Addison (1.04), WR Jalin Hyatt (1.18), WR Cedric Tillman (2.02), WR Kayshon Boutte (2.18), WR Xavier Hutchinson (3.02) and WR Parker Washington (3.18).
14. Subject to Change
On the hot seat: QB Mac Jones and WR Jerry Jeudy
Yahoo! Projection: 8-6
Coming off of an SBHL Co-Championship in 2022, it was a surprise to see STC this low on the pre-season power rankings. STC has a reliable core of players, but none that really jump off the page at you. STC is projected to win over 50% of their games, but do so on the backs of older players: TE Travis Kelce, WR Tyler Lockett, RB James Conner, QB Derek Carr. With a late round draft pick STC added TE Michael Mayer and QB Aidan O'Connell to take over their respective positions within a season or two.
15. 21 Cabbage
On the hot seat: RB Alexander Mattison
Yahoo! Projection: 3-11
21 Cabbage's first off-season was uneventful until the SBHL Rookie Draft. With some building to do in a tough decision, 21 Cabbage added WR Quentin Johnston at 1.06 and traded 1.20 and Alvin Kamar for 1.10 to draft QB Bryce Young. Thinking of the future 21C also turned TE Dalton Schultz and 2.04 in to a 2025 first round pick in one trade and turned 3.04, 3.16 and 3.20 in to the 2.13 (RB Deuce Vaughn) in another trade. Despite last year's projection, this team was on a short winning-streak in 2022 and made a run at the playoffs. With startable players at every position, 21C can try to re-create the magic they had last year.
16. Team_MAGA
On the hot seat: RB Miles Sanders & RB David Montgomery
Yahoo! Projection: 2-12
Team_MAGA is in a tough situation, they have an elite QB (Justin Herbert), a good pair of starting RB's (David Montgomery, Miles Sanders) and a collection of WR1's & WR2's (Amari Cooper, Jahan Dotson, Nico Collins), but no early picks to add a difference maker until 2025. In the draft TM took RB Chase Brown and RB Eric Gray in hopes that they inherit a starting job next season.
